Gujarat-based startup Co2ncrete is converting industrial by-products and construction waste into bricks, blocks and prefabricated housing components, offering an alternative approach to conventional cement-intensive construction. The company says its technology has contributed to more than 450 homes across Gujarat.
Founded by Vedant and Aditi Gandhi in Ankleshwar, Co2ncrete uses materials including fly ash, silica sludge and construction waste in its building products. Its manufacturing approach eliminates traditional cement and combines waste-derived materials with prefabrication, where components are manufactured before being transported and assembled onsite.
The startup claims this system can reduce construction timelines to about 30 days for a house. Lightweight prefabricated components are also intended to simplify transportation and assembly while lowering labour requirements and construction costs.
Another focus is thermal comfort. Co2ncrete has developed waste-based wall materials intended to keep interiors cooler during Gujarat’s high-temperature conditions, potentially reducing dependence on mechanical cooling.
The approach combines industrial-waste utilisation, prefabricated construction and alternative building materials, demonstrating how waste streams can be redirected into housing applications while reducing dependence on conventional construction inputs.
