Mumbai is rebuilding from within
Mumbai is entering a new phase of urban transformation.
With limited vacant land, ageing housing stock, evolving regulations, expanding infrastructure and growing demand for better housing, redevelopment is becoming one of the city's most important engines of real estate and infrastructure growth.
The opportunity is also getting bigger – moving beyond individual housing societies to cluster redevelopment, SRA projects, MHADA colonies, cessed buildings, self-redevelopment and infrastructure-led urban regeneration.
The 3rd Mumbai Redevelopment Summit 2026 brings together developers, government and regulatory authorities, financiers, investors, architects, PMCs, consultants, contractors, technology providers and housing stakeholders to examine how Mumbai can redevelop faster, safer and more sustainably – while maintaining project viability and resident interests.
This is where Mumbai's next generation of redevelopment projects takes shape.
From building redevelopment to city redevelopment
Mumbai's next phase of redevelopment is moving beyond individual housing societies. The emerging ecosystem spans:
Infrastructure + policy + capital + demand
Four forces are converging at the same time – and together they change what redevelopment in Mumbai can be.
Infrastructure
Metro expansion, Coastal Road, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, Navi Mumbai International Airport and other connectivity investments are reshaping Mumbai and MMR's development corridors.
Policy
DCPR 2034, cluster-focused reforms and evolving rehabilitation frameworks are enabling larger and more complex redevelopment propositions.
Capital
Larger developers, lenders, AIFs, NBFCs and specialised financiers are increasingly participating in redevelopment.
Demand
Redevelopment accounted for approximately 15% of Mumbai's residential sales during 2025–H1 2026, up from around 6% during 2016–2021.
A huge opportunity. But who will deliver it?
The opportunity is significant. Execution is a challenge.
Redevelopment requires developers, residents, societies, government authorities, financiers, architects, PMCs, contractors and buyers to remain aligned over several years.
Every project must navigate
How can Mumbai redevelop faster, safer and more profitably – without compromising residents' interests or the long-term viability of projects?
